LET’S ROCK British band Coldplay
World of Formula 1
Various/EMI
The heat is on. Bahrain Grand Prix flags off the Formula-1 2006, come March. Coinciding with the season is a racy compilation that features rock anthems to go with the spirit. Chart toppers from Mike and the Mechanics, Mr.Big, Roxette, Chris Rea, Europe, Scorpions, Van Halen, Coldplay and other artists are seen on the cover starting with Out in the fields by Gary Moore and followed by All fired up by Pat Benator. Enough to get that pulse racing.
Timelessness
Sergio Mendes/Universal
Sergio Mendes group, comprising veteran Latin percussionists Jose Soares and Joao Palma, Bob Matthews on bass, singer Lani Hall and Mendes on piano, created some of the best jet set pop ever heard. Mais que nada (translated It’s nothing) their first hit remains one of the popular cover tunes of their earlier days followed by Never let you go in 1982. Three decades later the legend returns. Produced by Will. I. Am, this album is a seamless blend of urban Brazilian rhythm, samba, bossa nova with hip-hop and rap. Guest collaborators on the album include Justin Timberlake, Stevie Wonder, India Arie, Erykah Badu, The Roots and others. Lend an ear.
Testify
P.O.D/Warner
San Diego multi-platinum hard rockers return with their fourth album. “To us, that word speaks for itself. It’s powerful,” Sonny (vocals) says of the one-word album title. “In our 14 years together, that’s what we’ve been doing. We’ve been testifying to the things that we believe in and that we’ve come to know.” With Testify, the band showcases some of their strongest songs to date. The album is produced by hit maker Glen Ballard.
